Fibromyalgia or fibromyalgia syndrome
Fibromyalgia, a debilitating and chronic disease, affects the quality of life of about 2-4% of the population, with a much higher incidence in women than in men (9:1 ratio). Although its pathophysiology remains unknown, a significant contribution is thought to be central nervous system sensitization with consequent abnormal brain activity.
Recent studies provide evidence of the role of hyperbaric therapy in improving the quality of life of fibromyalgia patients. By activating neuroplasticity, hyperbaric therapy can correct abnormal brain activity and improve the algic symptoms of the disease.
