Numerous recent studies show that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can be successfully used to treat aseptic femoral head necrosis, especially in the early stages, avoiding complex procedures such as hip joint replacement. This stimulates the growth of new blood vessels, which can supply oxygen and nutrients needed to regenerate bone tissue. It can also help reduce pain and prevent infection.
HBOT is increasingly recommended by orthopaedic doctors to stop the progression of avascular bone necrosis and prevent the onset of coxarthrosis (hip arthrosis).
