Îmbunătățirea performanțelor cognitive asociate

Deteriorarea funcțiilor fizice și cognitive ale indivizilor a devenit o reală îngrijorare în lumea dezvoltată, ca urmare a creșterii speranței de viață. Se estimează că mai mult de jumătate din populația de peste 60 de ani acuză manifestări asociate declinului capacităților fizice și cognitive. Astfel, eforturi majore în cercetare se depun pentru a îmbunătăți performanțele cognitive ale personei vârstnice tipice.

Există o categorie de studii, în continuă creștere, care demonstrează efectele benefice ale terapiei hiperbarice periodice în conservarea și îmbunătățirea funcțiilor cognitive.

Pe de altă parte, există o corelație pozitivă între capacitatea cognitivă și funcțiile fizice ale unei persoane.
