Obwohl sich größere Studien zum Einsatz der hyperbaren Sauerstofftherapie bei entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen noch in einem frühen Stadium befinden, sind die ersten Ergebnisse vielversprechend. Sie zeigen, dass die hyperbare Therapie zur Linderung von Schmerzen, Entzündungen und Symptomen beitragen kann und eine vielversprechende Behandlungsoption für Patienten mit entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen darstellt.

Während herkömmliche Behandlungen mit Kortikosteroiden, entzündungshemmenden und immunmodulierenden Mitteln schwere Langzeitnebenwirkungen haben können, stellt die hyperbare Sauerstofftherapie eine vielversprechende neue Behandlungsoption dar, da sie sowohl auf die Gewebshypoxie als auch auf die Entzündung abzielt und dabei sehr nebenwirkungsarm ist.
