Krónikus fertőzések
Számos vizsgálat hangsúlyozza a hiperbár-terápia jelentőségét a krónikus fertőzések, különösen a hagyományos kezelésekre csak korlátozott mértékben reagáló fertőzések kezelésében. A hiperbár oxigénterápiával kezelhető leggyakoribb krónikus fertőzések: csontvelőgyulladás, csontgyulladás, osteodiscitis, lágyrészfertőzések (nyílt sebek vagy égési sérülések), belsőfül-fertőzések, tüdőfertőzések, bőrfertőzések (tályog vagy fekély), borreliózis (Lyme-kór).
A hiperbár oxigénterápia hozzájárulhat a fertőzések gyógyulásához közvetlen bakteriosztatikus vagy baktériumölő hatása, az immunrendszer mikrobaellenes hatásának fokozása, valamint egyes mikrobaölő szerekkel kapcsolatos additív vagy szinergikus hatásai révén.
